Overview
LitAcademy ("we," "us," or "our") is a literacy learning platform designed for children in kindergarten through 5th grade. We take the privacy of children and families seriously and are committed to complying with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and all applicable privacy laws.
Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)
LitAcademy is intended for use by children under the supervision and with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent.
- Parent accounts required. Only parents or legal guardians may create accounts. Children access the platform through student profiles created and managed by their parent.
- Minimal child data. For student profiles, we collect only a first name (or nickname) and grade level. We do not collect email addresses, phone numbers, or other contact information from children.
- Audio recordings. When a child uses the read-aloud feature, audio is recorded temporarily for assessment purposes only. Recordings are processed to evaluate reading fluency and are not stored permanently or shared with third parties.
- Written responses.Children's written answers are processed by AI to provide educational feedback. These responses are associated with the student profile, not with any real-world identity.
- No advertising. We do not display advertisements to children or use children's data for advertising purposes.
- No social features. Children cannot communicate with other users, post publicly, or share personal information through the platform.

- Communication. To send parents account-related emails such as progress reports, password resets, and service updates.
- Improvement. To improve our curriculum, content quality, and learning algorithms in aggregate (not tied to individual children).

Data Retention
We retain parent account information and student learning progress for as long as the account is active. Audio recordings from read-aloud assessments are processed in real time and not stored permanently. When a parent deletes a student profile or their account, associated data is permanently deleted.
